We thank God for the life of Marjorie Hercus, one of the pioneers of CMDFA in NSW in the 1950's and 60's, who died peacefully at the age of 96 years. Marjorie Hercus, wife of Ophthalmologist and missioner Dr John Hercus, was a vibrant woman of God. Even in her 90's she was  still  interested in the CMFDA, attending  IMPACT in  2010 as this photo shows. She was being honoured as one of the founders of the Christian Medical Dental Fellowship of Australia with John.

Dr John and Marjorie Hercus, along with others like Drs Alice and John Steele-Smith energetically pursued their vision of a fellowship for Christian medical  people and their families in the 1950s, 60's and 70's. John and Marjorie mentored many groups of medical students in their home over decades. Marjorie providing the warmth of hospitality and welcome alongside John's probing yet kindly intellectual discussions.  We have many wonderful saints and role models in the CMDFA whose shoulders we stand on. Let us run the race with joy and with determination, as they did!

Known as Granmum to many, Marjorie was a wonderful person, full of faith, vitality and joy in living and we give thanks to God for her life well lived. She will be missed so much by all her family and our prayers are especially with them. I have a lovely mental image of Marjorie meeting John in heaven.... in the presence of Jesus their Lord. What joy she has now, and forever!  So much fruit of a faithful and faith-filled life! We were immensely blessed to know her.

Vale Marjorie, good and faithful servant of Jesus!
