A breakthrough strategy that is bringing transformation to individuals and to communities in the developing world by seamlessly combining disease prevention, evangelism and community development. CHE is a strategy for finding long-term solutions to the real problems faced by communities in all areas of life – physical, spiritual, social, emotional, economic. TOT1 – (Training of Trainers 1)

TOT1 is a 5 day intensive course consisting of 35 hours of training, designed to equip you in implementing an integrated ministry of community health and evangelism. You will be equipped with foundational Biblical principles and principles of development, that will allow you to know how to set up and run a CHE programme, in its many and varied models.

Trainers

  • Dr Judy Fitzmaurice lived in PNG for 12 years serving in a healthcare ministry with Pioneers. She is on the board of Pioneers Australia, serving as the Vice-Chair. Judy is the National Chair of the Christian Medical Dental Fellowship of Australia, CHE advocate and trainer. Judy loves equipping people for mission.

  • Dr Catherine Pratten has served with YWAM in Central Asia for 19 years in medical and training ministries, including CHE training. She is passionate about CHE and has a wealth of practical experience to share.

Who Should Come?

  • Anyone preparing for cross-cultural mission, short or long-term, particularly amongst the poor

  • Anyone who wants to develop a Biblical framework for doing community health and development or wholistic ministry

  • People from all works of life, not just healthcare – this is for lay-people as well as healthcare professionals

Venue

Morling Bible College, 120 Herring Rd, Macquarie Park 2113, in the dining hall.

If coming by train: Get off at Macquarie Uni Station and walk 5 minutes up Herring Rd, to Morling College

If coming by car: Herring Rd comes off Epping Rd. Park in the Morling College car park

If coming by Air: Morling is 50 mins from the airport by road. or you can take the Airport Train to Central and change to the train to Macquarie Uni station.

Course times

Mon 6th- Fri 10th | 8:30am – 7pm

We will plan to eat lunch and dinner together every day at Morling, and to form a worshipping Christian learning community.

If you are not from Sydney, reasonably priced accommodation may be able to be arranged at Morling College. Let us know your needs and if we can, we will try to assist you. Accommodation at Morling will cost extra – to be determined.

When to Arrive and Leave:

  • Travel on Sunday 5th December if you are not from Sydney. We may meet on Sunday night as the first introductory session – more news later.

  • Monday 6th December through to Friday 10th December – Days 1-5 of TOT1 – daily course-work.

  • Unfortunately there is no part-time attendance available

  • Informal evening programme may be arranged, depending on interest.

  • Depart – After 6:30pm Friday 10th (earliest departure) or Saturday 11th at your leisure.

Course Payment

The Organisation Hosting the event is PIONEERS Australia. Payment will need to be made to PIONEERS, by November 25th.

Ray Notley, the PIONEERS Sydney mobiliser, is assisting with course administration.

Payment can be made via the following methods:

  • The course cost will be $185.00 . This includes all lunch, dinner (Mon-Thurs), morning tea, afternoon teas.

  • Accommodation at Morling will be extra for you. (TBA)

Ronald James Sider is a Canadian-born American theologian, author and Christian activist.  He is a respected and passionate advocate of holistic biblical faith in the Christian world. 

In 1977, Ron's ground-breaking book, Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger, was published. It has been named by Christianity Today as the seventh most influential book in the evangelical world, in the last fifty years.

He has gone on to become the author of 47 books and a plethora of articles. His most recent books are The Scandal of Evangelical Politics: Why Are Christians Missing the Chance to Really Change the World and I Am not a Social Activist (2008).

Ron Sider is the founder- and now President- of Evangelicals for Social Action, a think-tank which seeks to develop biblical solutions to social and economic problems. He is also founding board member of the National Religious Partnership for the Environment.  

Ron is the Professor of Theology, Holistic Ministry and Public Policy at Palmer Seminary at Eastern University and Director of the seminary’s Sider Center on Ministry and Public Policy.
