CMDFA National Board


Dr. Ross Dunn AM, National Chair 

Ross Dunn is a General Dentist who has run a large Dental Practice in Brisbane Bayside for 36 years. He has been on Boards on and off for over 35 years and done training in Corporate Governance.  He has been actively involved with the Dental side of CMDFA in Queensland for the last 12 years and been involved in Overseas Dental Mission trips for nearly 20 years. He and his wife Lorraine have always had a passion for working with teenagers and young adults both in Dental and Church settings.   He is keen to see students continue on with their faith and commitment through the early years of their professional lives.

Dr Yvonne Lai, Secretary    

Yvonne is a general dentist in Western Australia. She previously worked in general private practice in Bunbury, and Northam, WA, and is currently a registrar in Paediatric Dentistry. Yvonne has been a CMDFA member since her student days in UWA, and currently serves on the WA State committee. Yvonne is passionate about seeing fellow colleagues in the healthcare field understand the importance of supporting one another as fellow Christian doctors and dentists in the healthcare field, working together to reflect Christ’s love in our professional and personal lives. Yvonne enjoys swimming, jogging and playing the violin in her spare time and cares for an adopted greyhound called Riley. 

Gene Passé-de Silva, Treasurer 

Married with four children and a granddaughter.  

Gene has had extensive experience in senior and executive management roles across most major facets of the banking and finance industry in Australia and overseas. This has included retail and wholesale banking, financial markets, finance and accounting, the corporate office and information technology. Gene also worked for a federal government agency and is currently a consultant in the finance and corporate sector. His practical experience is complemented by sound academic training and qualifications, including a Master of Business degree from the University of Technology, Sydney. 

Gene is a practising Christian with a family heritage and commitment to the Anglican Church. He has a great love of traditional church music, another family inheritance, and was a chorister from a tender age. He has been a member of the St. Matthews Anglican Church, West Pennant Hills for over 30 years and has served as a Church Warden and continues to take an active role as an Assistant Warden and leader in Sunday worship. 

 Dr Joel Wight, Recent Graduates, Staff Worker

Dr Jacki Dunning, REGS Student Worker

Jacki is currently working as an intern at Alice Springs Hospital. She is a graduate of Monash University, in Victoria, where she was heavily involved in her student CMDFA Group - Monash Christian Medical Students. As a student, she was involved in CMDFA on a state level as a member of the Victorian Committee and Convener of the Grow Mentoring Program for Christian medical students, and involved on a national level as the National Student Representative in 2014. A particular highlight was representing Australia at the World Congress for the International Christian Medical and Dental Association at Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Jacki is passionate about supporting Christian medical students in their journey through medical school and helping them deal with the particular moral, social and ethical problems that arise during this time. Jacki is married to Joseph, an accountant, and enjoys playing piano, exploring the outdoors, and wishes that she enjoyed exercising.

Dr Patricia Chan

MBBS, A/Dip SMBC, Dip RACOG, FRANZCOG (retired), MMed (Clin Epi), PhD

Pat is Chinese born in Burma, migrated to Australia with her family as a child. By God’s grace she was converted from Buddhism whilst studying Medicine at The University of Sydney. After a medical elective term in Raxaul, India with Interserve, and 3 months at Christian Hospital, Sahiwal, Pakistan; she specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This was followed by masters in Clinical Epidemiology at Sydney Uni, and PhD at RNSH.

Pat is now retired from RANZCOG and assists part time in surgery. She hopes to keep her neurons synapsing by learning to play the piano (in the near future), and involvement in research. Above all, Pat hopes to be a witness, live a life worthy of her high calling, and seek to glorify God in all things. She currently attends a reformed Presbyterian Church.

Dr Clem Lo   


Dr. Michael Burke    

MBBS, BSc, PhD, MA, MSc (Clin Epi), MPH and TM, FRACGP, FACTM, DRANZCOG, DCH, Dip Biblical Studies, FAICD.

Michael works in general practice and hospital work in western Sydney Michael completed his PhD at the UNSW in gender and HIV in an African context. He has contributed to the life of CMDFA in many roles - executive officer, state chair, board member, saline trainer, ethics committee member. He is a lecturer at both Sydney University and the University of Western Sydney. He enjoys teaching, reading and writing and travel. He is married to Jean and has three adult sons. He is an ever hopeful Richmond football club supporter.

National Manager

Mr. David Brown started as the CMDFA Business Manager in January 2012.  He has extensive experience in advertising, starting in the UK and moving then to Hong Kong in 1975. After 4 years in Hong Kong he joined Coca-Cola and moved with his wife and 2 children to South Korea, Singapore and Indonesia before relocating in 1987 to Sydney. After leaving Coca-Cola in 1994 he worked as a consultant and then ran his own Internet website company for 9 years until 2011 while also serving as a CEO of a Family Law firm for 5 of those years. He has served his local church as Church Warden and is still actively involved in the worship services. In addition he worked as Board member for a Christian media organisation for a number of years.
